Worst puppy ever in my life. Things were so bad I almost didn't keep her. I knew though that anyone else that got her would have the same uncontrollable problems to deal with. That meant there was a very good chance she would end up in a shelter.it broke my heart. I was so disappointed. I waited so long to get an Aussie and as bad as she was, I loved her. I decided to keep her. I realized that meant I had to be 100% committed to training her. I've put 12 months of dedicated training and love into my Aussie but I don't regret a minute of it. She is turning out to be one of the best dogs I've ever had. ❤️

Why are so many people commenting about how long he took to get to the point? He has amazing and extremely useful information, but his main point is that you CANNOT skip forming a bond with your dog! Maybe the problem is that you’re not willing to put in the effort to even watch a 5 minute video, much less form a lifetime bond with your dog. As hard as it is to hear, it really is quite often the owner and not the dog. I had to realize this myself before I was able to become a good leader (both with my animals and my kids!), but so many things changed when I did the necessary work on myself FIRST! Here’s to hoping this info develops good owners/leaders FIRST…and if you made it this far into my comment, good job! You’re already in the way to becoming an amazing leader!❤❤❤

Its nothing against the guy specifically. The video does have good information, but there's little to no actual actionable steps given prior to like 10 minutes. He says, "Restructure the relationship" but doesn't give any tips on doing that. Saying exercize your dog is good, people should do that. But that is a very basic statement. Every point he says could be condensed into like a minute without losing any of the information he gave. Points are repeated multiple times and there's a lot of over explaining. It just takes up a lot of time. If it was all information I could use, i wouldn't mind listening to a 15 (not 5) minute video, but 90% of this video is just filler words. Again, nothing against this guy. He seems like he is good at his job and the comments have nothing to do with the actual information included in the video. The presentation is just not organized well.

I am from farmlands in south australia. I have a shepherd/guardian dog from farms here in aus. Genetically who honestly knows what he really is but The "american" aussie shepherd is almost identical to my actual shepherd dog bred for work in aus. My big boy even has a full mane, leg feathering and was born with a 1/2 tail. Rarely see differant eyes on the same dog but do see crazy blues and greens in some of the dogs

I found an abandoned 6 mth old Australian Shepard and holding on to her until I can find a proper home. I have 2 - 4 year old shepards (male and female) she learned very quickly to leave my femals shepard alone but my male, she loves to screw with him. I know part is her being a puppy and wanting to play but she loves to nip my male in the neck and legs and jumps on him. Took them all to run and play this morning and she runs after the femals ans back but my male she seems to heard him when hea running. any tips on how to handle, etc. I really want to get her into a good home and she’s getting pretty attached to me, but I’m trying to correct stuff before somebody takes her.

My Aussie is 3 1/2 years years old. I got her in 2021 at 10 weeks old. Breeder has a FARM. She has had a LOT of training. 1 and 1/2 years if you if you add it all up. Including airflight. She is my Service Dog. Needs the 1 1/2 miles to 2 miles a day walk. She loves to fetch ball. Chewing as a puppy to a bit of work to get that over with. No fluffy toys, those were destroyed. Yes, I should find ways for more exercise she would love it and needs it. Her job is to be by my side for the walk and close when home and other places. She also provides balance and help for me. Her solid build helps when getting up (chair or floor) She does stay with me when we go places (restaurants), parks, and the other Tasks. I think she will chill out as she gets older and Starlight mentioned. Great with a JOB.

mini aussie is almost 11 weeks and he is a chewer.. i redirect with a toy if he gets my fingers or anything he shouldn't chew on. I heard if they get ur fingers you should say ouch really loud.. no i have never done it...i think it would scare the hell out of my other dogs and since 1 is protection trained.. not a good idea in my house lol i really think he is starting to think his name is no. lol

My aussie howls when he is excited.... he doesn't bark on walks truck rides etc...but he barked as a puppy when he started getting excited i would tell him to sit before he started to bark. I realized he usually started to get fixated or get excited before he barked so i interrupted him before he got to that point. he is 100% okay in any situation dogs cats etc... my mutt is protective of the house but she was trained for diabetic alert dog and detaining a threat on command. We were in lowes and my mutt started alerting that this older ladies sugar was low... my mutt never met this lady. I asked the lady "are you diabetic?" she said she was... i said my dog is alerting that your glucose is low she scanned her arm and he glucose was at 63... she ate some candy out of her purse and my mutt stopped alerting. I think my aussie is starting that too...he sat next to the lady and never moved but thats the mutts alert as well so maybe because the mutt was doing it he decided to sit there too. My mutt will wake me up if im sleeping by growling in my ear if my glucose is low.

I adopted an Aussie mix breed - maybe with a Collie. We are guessing her age to be about 2 yrs. Her background is sketchy and sad. She was a stray, at some point had a litter, ended up in a kill shelter, rescued by the Australian cattle dog assoc, and sent to a farm where I then adopted her. She obviously had lots of trauma to deal with. We have made quite a bit of progress after working with 2 trainers. The most recent is a dog behaviorist. She continues to be reactive to vehicles and will attack our 10 lb terrier without warning. We have resorted to keeping her on a leash in the house when together and placing gates in the doorways to keep the dogs apart. I have had her for 8 months and am sad that we can't seem to make progress with her aggression towards our other dog. Even our trainer is now saying it might never get better. I don't want her to go to a shelter or even have to tolerate another transition. I'm sure this home is the most stability she has ever had. We truly love her and want to do whatever is best for her and our other dog.

I've had my Aussie since he was a puppy of 12 weeks. Not only was he easily house trained, he never had an accident in the house while being housebroken. He never, ever, destroyed anything in my home. Like any puppy, an Aussie needs consistent training and exercise. He is content to chill in the house with me. Daily exercise is a must. This video points out the negatives. If you want an awesome adult dog, it does take consistent training as a puppy. Now, at age 4, he is a loving, intelligent, friendly, socialized dog who I take to street fairs, parks, any store where dogs are welcome

i have a aussie neutered male almost 2 years old and he is great in any situation but he doesn't like the saw at lowes when they cut wood for you. he doesn't run or try to hide it just startles him when it is turned on. He also has a mutt to play with him.. << my pic black dog is my mutt tan dog is aussie. we now have a 9 week old mini aussie and he is also a good dog but he has not been left alone as of yet but when he is old enough we will take him to daycare at our vets office. When my older aussie was neutered the vet said "we are gonna keep him overnight" apparently the vet found out that he howls and barks when he isn't happy!!! at 9pm i got a call from the vet and he said "does ur dog howl and bark all night?" i said no why.. he put his phone on speaker phone.. woah the noises i heard LOL. He said hey come get your dog at my house... he saw me and he didn't jump or anything but yeah i took him home. When he got home he went potty outside then as soon as he got in the house he cried at the bottom of our bed i lifted him up and put him on the bed and he slept for like 9 straight hours.... lol

my mutt 1/4 aussie... is reactive in our yard... same dog away from the house great. she walks into lowes and howls to mark her arrival.. lol no clue where the guarding came in at home she is protection trained and a diabetic dog.. she was never given the command to guard so she is giving herself that command at home.. my aussie is 55 pounds of mush.. could give 50000 craps less never barks for anything except if he hears something in the middle of the night.. very rare for him to bark at all. if he barks at night there is something wrong grab a weapon and go investigate..

I adopted a 5 year old Australian shepherd in December. I trained my neighbour’s high energy Lab using your methods and it was an easy process. My Aussie is sweet and smart too but the most stubborn animal I’ve ever met. He knows and does what he’s told 90% of the time but argues with a strange sounding bark when he understands but disagrees with a command. He loves people but was extremely dog aggressive (which is why his original owner gave him up) and that wasn’t tolerated so I’ve almost completely eliminated that from his behaviour and that took constant vigilance and patience. Overall he’s a great dog but he’s way more work than I’d expected. He gets 2 hours off lead and 45 minutes of obedience walk every day and it’s a great retirement project for me.

Thank you for this video. My boss has a herding dog that bites my ankle, it doesn’t hurt, it’s more of a shock and I freak out and get really angry at the dog and then we have kind of a stand off. The dog just wants my attention cause I sometimes throw it a ball or give it a lot of love and I think it really likes me, but when I’m trying to do my job and the dog comes up and bites my ankle from behind I lose my fkn mind and go psycho on it verbally. Then my boss always blames me for provoking the dog (but I’m always bitten from behind and minding my own business when it happens, just trying to do my job) My boss wants to discipline me instead of the dog so this is great ammo. The boss is not exercising their young dog enough or providing it with something appropriate to bite, so it bites the people who aren’t giving it attention who are just trying to do their job. I have never owned a dog in my 40 years of life and I don’t think it’s fair to blame me for not knowing how to interact with a dog, let alone one that bites your leg or “arse” when you’re just trying to do your job and not paying attention to it. Im not prepared to get bitten by someone else’s dog because I’m not paying attention to it when I’m being paid to not pay attention to it.

I can see that. I occasionally see an Aussie Shepherd and it's EXTREMELY aggressive, and probably wasn't socialized well. The barking is bonkers and tries it's best to jump the 5' fence to get after me. Beautiful dog though

Crate training is a fad, doesn't make for exceptional dogs

😢I would tell anyone even thinking about getting an Australian Shepherd not to. I've trained every dog breed I've ever had as therapy dogs. The 11-month-old Australian Shepherd I have right now is by far the worst dog I have ever had in my life. There is video plus more videos and account after account of just how bad these dogs are. Please do indepth research before getting an Australian Shepherd. Read the neg. comments about Australian shepherds on various dog training sites. They are numerous! It's almost like a very nervous unstable trait is being braided into Aussies now.

I have an 11 week old Aussie and he’s started nipping at people’s heels, feet and knees a lot recently. He doesn’t do it much to me but he actively goes after my girlfriend. I try the collar method to teach him that behavior isn’t good he tends to just get more ramped up. Does anyone have any advice?
